Google Ads Integration

What this integration does

Whosta connects to your Google Ads account using Google’s official OAuth 2.0 flow. You authorise the connection inside your own Google account — Whosta never sees your Google password. Once connected, Whosta can read data from your Google Ads account and answer your queries about it.

Testing phase — authorised test users only. The Google Ads integration is currently pending Google OAuth verification. Only Google accounts explicitly added as authorised test users by Xborder Technologies may connect at this time. Public availability will follow once verification is complete.

Designed as read-only in the initial release. Whosta’s application code does not call any Google Ads API write operations. Note that the OAuth scope (adwords) technically permits broader API access; read-only behaviour is enforced at the application level, not by the OAuth scope itself. Whosta does not use this scope to create, modify, pause, or delete campaigns, ads, bids, or keywords. Future write features will require your explicit step-by-step approval.

What Whosta is designed to support in the initial release

The features below describe the intended capability of the initial release. The integration is currently in a testing phase; some features depend on infrastructure that is not yet fully active in production. Availability will be confirmed when the integration moves to general availability.

Campaign performance

Designed to query impressions, clicks, cost, CTR, and conversions for your campaigns over any date range.

Keyword data

Designed to retrieve keyword performance, match types, Quality Scores, and bid information across your ad groups.

Search term reports

Designed to retrieve search terms that triggered your ads, with performance data for identifying negatives or opportunities.

Keyword Planner

Designed to surface keyword ideas and historical search volume and competition data for research purposes. Availability may depend on your Google Ads account access level.

Account overview

Designed to provide a summary of total account spend, active campaigns, and top-performing ad groups.

Multi-account support

Designed to list accessible Google Ads accounts and let you explicitly select which account to query. Whosta does not auto-select accounts.

What data Whosta accesses

Whosta requests the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/adwords OAuth scope. This scope permits reading Google Ads account and campaign data. Whosta accesses the following data categories:

Google Ads customer account identifiers and account names
Campaign, ad group, and ad metadata and status
Keyword lists, match types, bids, and Quality Scores
Search term report data
Keyword Planner research data and historical metrics
Account-level performance statistics (impressions, clicks, cost, conversions)

Whosta accesses this data solely to answer your queries and generate reports within the Whosta service. We do not use your Google Ads data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to providing the Whosta service to you.

What Whosta does not do

Ask for your Google password
Create, edit, pause, or delete campaigns, ads, bids, or keywords (read-only release)
Access your Gmail, Google Analytics, or other Google products not covered by the Google Ads API scope
Share your Google Ads data with third parties for advertising or profiling
Use your Google Ads data to train AI models for other users
Sell your Google Ads data
Make any changes to your Google account without your explicit step-by-step approval

How authorisation works

You initiate the connection

From your Whosta dashboard, click “Connect Google Ads”. Whosta redirects you to Google’s authorisation page.

You authorise inside Google

Google shows you exactly what permissions Whosta is requesting. You review and approve or decline — entirely within your Google account.

Whosta receives a token

Google returns a one-time authorisation code to Whosta. Whosta exchanges it for an OAuth refresh token server-side, encrypts it with AES-256-CBC, and stores only the encrypted value.

You select your account

Whosta lists the Google Ads accounts accessible under your authorisation. You explicitly select which account to use. Whosta never auto-selects an account.

Start querying

Ask Whosta questions about your campaigns, keywords, and spend. Whosta fetches data from Google Ads and returns it in readable form.

Future write functionality

Future releases of the Google Ads integration may allow Whosta to propose changes to your account, such as bid adjustments or adding negative keywords. When this is enabled, every proposed change will follow a strict draft-and-approval workflow:

Whosta proposes a specific change.
You review the full details of the proposed change.
You explicitly confirm by a deliberate action.
Whosta applies the change only after your confirmation.
An audit record is created.

No changes will be made automatically or without your step-by-step approval. We will notify users and update the Terms of Service before enabling write functionality.

Disconnecting and revoking access

You can disconnect the Google Ads integration at any time from your Whosta dashboard. On disconnection, Whosta immediately revokes the OAuth token at Google and deletes all stored credentials. You can also revoke access directly from your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
